Made My Day

On Saturday (yesterday) I was on campus to study for a few hours in the library. I first had to run an errand in the WILK, and upon finishing I headed for the west-side doors that leave out towards the library. There was some sort of boy scout convention going in the WILK, and as I approached the building's doors a short red-headed boy scout (he looked about 11 or 12 years old) had already made his way through the doors, entering the building. We were about to pass each other headed in opposite directions when he realized I was headed for the doors. So, he turned around and proceeded to open them for me. It may have been simple, but his caring act made my day! I hope I can raise my future sons to be like that.

I love it! I too hope that I can raise my sons to be like that. It's scary sometimes to be a mom and raise your kids in this crazy world and really sad that a young man opening a door for you if out of the ordinary. But,your post reminded me that if we just try to teach them the "small and simple" things like holding a door open or saying thank you that it will be so much easier for them to understand those big things that seem too overwhelming to teach them on our own (good thing we don't have to) OK, so not that you need the parenting advice or anything but I think that we can apply that to our own lives too. Thanks Ash, you are awesome and I love you!
